Howard. Yes. I needed to write Howard because, well yeah we discussed this. Just wasn't sold on typical portrayals romanticizing Howard -- which are fine, because. Well it makes sense to me. Especially looking *back* on him. But I wasn't looking back I was looking right at him and he's an interesting little thing. I may want more. (I'm kinda flailing around Bucky, though, I don't know what will come of it but I am intrigued.)
I was kinda worried about Steve/Howard being like Steve/Tony and the fact that you picked up on ways that it isn't as well as way that it is like it makes me feel better. Because I do think Tony's a bit like Howard -- the film sets that up, people confusing the two, it's deliberate. But whereas Howard is a bit of an authority figure to Steve (although not a man of rank) Tony is a different breed. For all that Howard is a good man, there's the ... Disney guy... underneath, the bad father, the alcoholic, and so forth. Howard's a great guy, but perhaps not always a good one, to use the distinction. And I hope that came through. So Steve needling that just chips away until that is revealed. Tony's kinda the opposite, at least in my head. The front and the coping mechanisms are the bad bits, the stuff underneath is Iron Man. What Steve pushes at with Tony is good guy Tony has the potential to be, the guy that Tony is at the end of the day.
And STEEEVE. I can't just not flail at Steve. I've been wanting to write something Cap pov for so long but couldn't because 1. Tony is easier for me and wont' shutup and 2. It's Steve!
This is the kinda of fic I've always wanted to write. I love the swift cuts and bleeds and connections and it's how I work things out in my head anyhow so to be able to bring that out in fic form was just. I loved it. And I love that it translated well. Sometimes that doesn't always happen.
<3<3 Thank you for all the feelings. And the quick readthrough. And all the good stuff you always do.
